Rock 'n' Roll Just Got Bigger
Here’s a Band on track for super-stardom. Under the managerial wing of Stiff Records founder & ex-President of Island Records, Dave Robinson, they've had a brilliant year which saw them play Glastonbury, Kendall Calling, Leeds/Reading & more. In fact, they so impressed at Glastonbury that they were even selected to play the after-party gig. Now on the back of a UK tour with The Alabama 3 they'll be supporting Sir Bob & The Boomtown Rats in Belfast & Dublin.
Teaming up with a music industry giant is no small feat for a group of youngsters, some of whom are barely out of school. Just take a quick look at their manager’s CV.
Originally a teenage photographer in Dublin, he befriended & managed Van Morrison, was Jimi Hendrix's road manager & toured with him across America. He's partied with The Grateful Dead, Janice Joplin, The Who, Jim Morrison. He's managed Brinsley Schwartz, Graham Parker, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmonds, Ian Dury & Elvis Costello & overseen the careers of U2, Robert Palmer, Stevie Winwood, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Damned, Motorhead, Nick Lowe, Tracey Ullman, Kirsty McColl, The Pogues, Madness & many, many more
Hardwicke Circus are a massive 7 piece rock 'n' roll band: a true rock 'n' roll collective, hailing from both sides of the Scottish border & some other places that only ever existed in the 70’s.
Their music is indie rock with a confident swagger. Evoking early 70's post Altamont malevolence, dragging it kicking & screaming through a modern indie custom cab until it sounds like the Stone's are covering Catfish & The Bottlemen. Of course it doesn't hurt that their lead singer is a dead ringer for the young Mick Jagger & if that isn't enough you'd swear that a teenage Pete Townsend was playing guitar?
“We’re a Rock 'n' Roll band, but musically I hope we’re a whole lot more,” offers front-man Jonny Foster, a confident performer, who seems much older & wiser than his years.
“Our record company, smart indie, came up with the phrase ‘rock and roll just got bigger’ after seeing our first performance at King Tut’s in Glasgow. This might be an obvious case of hyperbole and flattery but of course they might have been right - we’re always trying to put on a show!” The promoter at Tut's likened it to 'Exile on Main St.'
